What does Smart MCs do?

Today's meat industry is facing increasing pressure to reduce its environmental footprint. There will be more than 2 billion people born by 2050 whom we need to feed and farming is already at full capacity, emitting 21% of global CO2, causing 40% of global deforestation. Lab-grown meat is one of these emerging global industries that can deliver a slaughter-free new protein source, with 90% less greenhouse gas emissions, and water and land use. However, one of the major problems the cultivated meat industry is facing is the high production cost at a large-scale. At Smart MCs, we develop smart microcarriers and complementary technologies that would enable cultivated meat companies to scale up their production, lower their costs and minimise their cell loss.
