What does Societe d'Exploration Miniere d'Afrique de l'Ouest do?
SEMAFO may be based in Canada, but it mines all of its gold in West Africa. The company produces precious metals at its ever-expanding Mana Mine permit in Burkina Faso where it produces about 158,600 ounces of gold per year. As production at its main Mana mine has slowed, SEMAFO has increased exploration at the Siou and Fofina deposits, also on the Mana property. Mana's total gold reserves are more than 2.3 million ounces. Beyond Burkina Faso, SEMAFO is also exploring and developing gold properties in Ghana. SEMAFO formerly mined properties in Niger and Guinea but it sold those.
